As you may know, Minecraft 1.2.4 contained a serious world generation crash bug so Jeb thought that it was best to release an early snaphot before the official 1.2.5 version.

You'll be able to sleep peacefully knowing your Minecraft servers will support the latest updates. Any new Minecraft snapshots or version updates will be instantly compatible with the new API. Eventually, Minecraft will come pre-packaged with Bukkit like tools. In fact, Jeb has already given us clues on what to expect.

With these guys working on Minecraft full time, we can expect to see a lot of mod API work going on. The team includes: Nathan Adams who is an English developer Erik Broes who previously worked on Bukkit development Tahg and EvilSepth who was the Bukkit team lead. So now it's over to the new Bukkit team with Jeb leading the way. He's going to be working on the AI for Scrolls because that's his thing. Well, he's back on the Scrolls game for the time being, probably a couple of weeks. He was responsible for improving the path finding ability of mobs, giving zombies the intelligence to break through doors and also the excellent Ocelot jungle mob.

Some of you will remember Jon Kagstrom from his improvements to the Minecraft AI (artificial intelligence). This snapshot includes lots of bug fixes such as random chat crashes, the serious world generation crash and Lord Herobrine ghost entities. Minecraft 1.2.5 prerelease is another of the early snapshots from Jeb and the rest of the Minecraft team.
